Those individuals in their 50s or beyond 50 years of age are very likely to suffer from the condition. As far as the condition is mild, hemorrhoids do not require any medical intervention. You can easily manage it at home by making some minor changes in your diet. The following tips may be helpful in managing the condition and will also help in preventing it:

However, if the condition is severe then it is best to get it treated as it could lead to further complications. Big hemorrhoids can even put your life at risk as they could be a symptom of the colon or anal cancer.

Even after having tried all the home remedies, if the symptom still persists then it is time to consult a specialist. If the symptoms include abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, or fever, then call the doctor right away.

How to get rid of external hemorrhoids?

As far as the treatment for external hemorrhoids is concerned, the doctor will, first of all, ask you about your medical history, and family history They will most likely conduct a physical examination as well.  Furthermore, the doctor might also recommend a digital examination and an anoscopy to identify any abnormalities inside the rectum. This will help in diagnosing internal hemorrhoids and other related issues as well.

Treatment Procedures

Where the treatment procedures of hemorrhoids are concerned, there are both non-surgical and surgical methods available.

Non-surgical treatment

Severe big hemorrhoids can be treated non-surgically. The following are some of the big hemorrhoid treatments available:

Laser treatment

This procedure is one of the most effective methods of treating big hemorrhoids. Also known as hemorrhoidoplasty, it is preferred by most people as it is a non-invasive procedure. Besides, it is a simple and quick procedure and requires minimum effort. In this procedure, intense light from the laser machine seals off the blood flow. This helps in drying and shrinking the hemorrhoids. The best part about this procedure is that it does not harm the tissue or the anal sphincter surrounding the hemorrhoids.

Rubber-band ligation

In this procedure, a rubber band is tied around big hemorrhoid treatments to cease the supply of blood. This will cause the hemorrhoids to dry and shrink away. Rubber band litigation is not only effective in removing hemorrhoids but is also cost-effective. Although it leaves behind some scars, the procedure can also be used for treating internal hemorrhoids as well.

Electrocoagulation

Electrocoagulation is the procedure that specifically treats internal hemorrhoids. A special device that generates electric current is used in the procedure. When the current flows into the hemorrhoids, it forms scar tissue which cuts off the blood supply. This results in drying and shrinking the hemorrhoids.

Surgical treatment

In case, the hemorrhoids recur or the non-surgical treatments fail to get rid of the hemorrhoids, then surgical removal is an option. The following are the two types of surgical treatments for big hemorrhoids that are available:

Excisional Hemorrhoidectomy

This procedure involves the removal of the tissues causing big hemorrhoid treatments. Depending on the surgeon, they can either choose to leave the wound close or open. However, more surgeon prefers to stitch the wound and leave the wound close. Hemorrhoidectomy can treat both internal and external hemorrhoids. The downside of this treatment is that it is quite painful and takes longer to recover. Usually, the patient may require two to four weeks to recover. To ease the pain, the doctor may prescribe painkillers.

Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy

This procedure involves partial removal of the tissue that causes hemorrhoids. The doctor will then use a special surgical staple to lift the remaining tissue toward the anal canal and staple it.  It is the most effective treatment method for external hemorrhoids. Also, it requires a lesser time span for recovery and is less painful. The only downside of this procedure is that it cannot treat large external hemorrhoids.
